With the legalization of marijuana on the horizon, it’s important that nurses be well prepared to respond to health inquiries associated with substance use. A recent national survey revealed that only 62% of nurses considered themselves knowledgeable about the risks associated with recreational cannabis.
How can you leverage this opportunity to advance your career?
Although the federal government may invest in nurses’ professional development on this topic in the future, why wait? Start doing research on methods of cannabis consumption and the risks involved with each, cannabis use during pregnancy, how cannabis effects mental health, etc. Compile what you’ve learned and spearhead a training initiative within your organization.
Jot down the results of the training so you can add it to your résumé. Be sure to brag about how training positively impacted the nursing team.
Remember, advancing your nursing career is all about staying ahead of the game!
